Saheliyon ki Bari

The Courtyard of the Maidens also known as Saheliyon ki Bari is on e of the major attractions for the tourists. It is a garden which is built in the north of the city of Udaipur  It features a museum, Fountains and a lotus pool which has marble elephants on the sides. The idea behind it was of Maharana Bhopal Singh.

The idea was to built a garden for the women who were the attendants accompanied the princess of Mewar , 48 in number as a Dowry- An old Indian custom. The garden is at a lower level then the Fateh Sagar Lake and ducts are made through Fateh Sagar lake so that water runs from the lake to the garden through ducts and thus watering the fountains and the lotus pool. Each of the duct produce a sound when water flows adding an charming sound to the place and nearby places.

This garden can be termed as the most beautiful garden of the city of Udaipur and a major tourist attraction point about Udaipur. The green gardens, the art on marble and the fountains make it a very beautiful place.

Saheliyon ki Bari History

The work of the garden completed in the 18th century. As the facts describes, the garden was designed by the King himself and the king presented the garden to the queen as the queen when married brought her own maids who were 48 in number. To give them a good present as a relaxing place, the king decided to make the place.

The queen used this place to enjoy and relax when free along with her maids. As the nature of garden built for the queen and his maids, the name “Saheliyon Ki Bari” came into existence which is a Hindi word which means garden for female friends.

A sharp eyed person will definitely admire the ultimate architecture of the place. The place have 4 water pools along with marble elephants. In the center of the park lies a bird fountain. You will definitely get wet if you decide to watch this fountain. The glorious view of the garden makes it a very romantic place and it is now open for general public with an entry fee. So if you wish to visit the gardens of Rajasthan, you must visit this place.
